Sandpaw scurried after her mentor. This was going to be such a fun day. She spotted an orange and black butterfly and scampered after it, ignoring her mentor's calls.

"Sandpaw! Come back here!" Miststar called after her apprentice. ooc: I was supposed to be you mentor, right? bic: Oh well, I guess I should let her have her fun. Miststar thought to herself. She trotted after her apprentice, as Sandpaw chased the butterfly. She did have to smile at the young dogs enthusiasm.

Sandpaw leaped into the air and snapped her jaws together, attempting to grab the butterfly. She looked back and saw her mentor following. She dropped to the ground and murmered an appology. "Sorry, Miststar..." ooc: Yes.. you are her mentor

"No, it's fine. Now, back to business. Do you feel you need more practice in hunting or fighting?" Miststar sked her apprentice. She decided that Sandpaw would probably have more fun, and be more interested in learning, i fshe cold have some freedom to choose what she wanted to learn about.

"Well, squealing like that isn't going to help you hunt." Miststar joked. "Now, sniff the air, do smell anything?" Miststar asked, scenting a couple of rodents herself. She watched as her apprentice concentrated on scenting for prey.

Sandpaw lifted her snout into the air and sniffed hard. A little fly, caught in the draft, followed the current. She sneezed and the bug flew out.

"I said scent for prey, not bugs!" Miststar laughed at her apprentice. She saw a smile on Sandpaw's face as her apprentice sniffed the air again. She saw a triumphant look in Sandpaws eyes and the the dog must have smelled something.

"There!" Sandpaw dashed off in the direction of the mouse she smelled, plopping down quite hard on the soft grass.

ooc: I gather that you did not catch the mouse... bic: "No Sandpaw, if you want to catch the prey you have to sneak up on it." Miststar said to her apprentice, "You can't say anything, or run forward, unless chasing rabbits, if you hope to catch it. You have to crouch down and slowly crawl forward until you are close enough." Miststar scented the air. Smelling a chipmunk she whispered "Shhh, I'll show you watch me." Miststar slunk forward and saw the rodent scrabling at the base of an oak. She got close enough then sprung up, landing with a large paw on the chipmunk. She grabbed it in her mouth and snapped its neck. Dropping the chiipmunk she said "You see, that's how you do it, now try again."

Sandpaw sniffed the air and scented a baby bunny. She crouched down and softly padded to it's den. She stretched a paw in and flung it out. It tried to run but she grabbed it it her mouth and snapped it's neck. "Good?" she asked hopefully.

"Great! Put some dirt over it and we can take it to the elders when we're done." Miststar said to her apprentice. "Now, it's time to practice fighting. Off the top of your head what do you know?" Miststar asked her apprentice.

"Good, but do you know any strategies to biting, clawing, and scratching?" Miststar asked her apprentice.
